Andalucía: a book review

An old friend of mine is a talented writer and a gentleman. He has a beautiful wife, Anna, and two lovely children. Not so long ago, Anna was diagnosed with breast cancer, and to help him cope, Rik began to write about their experiences. Then he began to write about how they met, and their life together, because he was scared he wouldn’t be able to remember it for their children.

Andalucía is a staggeringly beautiful book that weaves past and present together, describing their colourful life in an Israeli kibbutz, their travels and their family life in Northumberland.

Rik and Anna’s story makes you take stock of your life and appreciate what you’ve got. It’s plainly obvious how loved they are, by family, friends and neighbours.

If you only buy one book for the rest of this year, please make it this one. You won’t be sorry.
